Sam Rapley is a highly experienced composer, orchestrator & music editor working across Film, TV & Games in the UK. He trained at the National Film & Television School and Royal Academy of Music and has worked across a broad range of prolific studio series and films. He also writes music and plays saxophone for his own band, Fabled.
Sam’s recent credits include composing additional music for Sony Pictures upcoming feature Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire alongside composer Dario Marianelli, music programming on Warner Bros. Wonka and music editing on the hit Netflix series Bodies. He has also orchestrated on several films and TV shows, most notably on HBO / BBC’s His Dark Materials Season 3.
He has written music for several children’s TV shows including Polly Pocket: Sparkle Cove (Mattel/Wildbrain) and CBBC’s Biff & Chip Series 2 & 3’ which he scored alongside composer Mark Russell.
Sam has been a regular collaborator with BBC Radio and in 2022 was commissioned to write a piece for the BBC Concert Orchestra as part of BBC Sounds Music & Meditation Podcast for which he also wrote the theme music. More recently he wrote the theme music for Essential Classics Mix and was asked to arrange a piece for the Radio 3 In Tune Christmas Special.
Whilst studying at the National Film and Television School, Sam scored a number of short films & games which have gone on to receive widespread critical acclaim. These include Spring Roll Dream (winner of Lights on Women award at Cannes Film Festival, shortlisted for a student BAFTA), 3 Promises (premiered at Doc NYC, semi-finalist for a student Oscar) and the game Pest Whisperer (2nd place at The Big Indie Pitch, showcased at EGX). Upon graduating from the NFTS, Sam was awarded the prestigious Avid prize for Excellence in Composition and was mentored by Dario Marianelli. He is currently a BAFTA Connect member.
As well as composing for Film, TV & Games, Sam writes music for his own band, Fabled and regularly performs as a saxophonist & clarinetist with the likes of Alfa Mist, Waaju, Misha Mullov-Abbado & Jordan Rakei.
